The Emergency Department can at times be a very stressful environment. During this particular shift, the environment was very tense. A tragic event had occurred involving a child. An event that is unbearable to hear about, never mind to deal with. Although I did not personally witness Jess Wyman taking care of the child, it was apparent what had happened and the distress and emotion she was dealing with. She never once let what had happened to this particular patient affect the care she gave to her other patients. She continued to work in a professional and compassionate manner. Additionally, the siblings of the child involved in the tragedy were brought to the ED. Jess interacted with those children and made them feel as comfortable as they possibly could during a most difficult time.
