I would like to share my experience in the NSICU. First off, I was scared to death that I was about to lose the love of my life. We had been to three other ER's in the last two weeks before entering the ER at Baptist. The nurse on staff was Kayla. She was by my side the whole time. She explained to me all of the hospital information and helped me stay calm and understand what was going on in an environment that I had never experienced before.
A friend gave me a notepad to write down my thoughts so that I could remember what was happening. In my notes, I wrote to my wife, "Kayla loves you, she took the best care of you." Kayla was only there for one shift, but before she left that night, she came to me and said, "I'm off until Thursday, but if you are still in the hospital, I will come find you and check on you and your wife."
The next day, God sent me Jenna, my second angel. As soon as she arrived she gave me a goal for the day. We were to remove the breathing tube and wake up my wife. Jenna helped me with the "why's" and the "how's" of her job. She told me to talk to my wife but not to ask questions that she had to answer yes or no. In my notes, I wrote "I'm impressed with Jenna, she is a keeper. She is what you and I needed to get you well."
Other nurses on your staff were awesome and did a great job, but Kayla and Jenna really stood out. As I write this, we are still at the hospital and Kayla woke me up this morning to check on my wife. I have a saying that I tell people all the time, "A man is only as good as his word," and Kayla kept her word to me. You have something very special in Kayla and Jenna. They are miracles and have proven to us that God is good.
