My dad spent 4 ½ weeks in the CICU with several health problems. Unfortunately he died Tuesday, March 20 but during his lengthy stay, all of his nurses provided exceptional care for my dad. There were times that my dad had more than 10 IVs and he was also on a dialysis machine.
I am nominating Heather Martin because she was one of several nurses that my sister, wife, and I feel gave our dad the best professional care and also had a real concern for his health and recovery. Heather was a special nurse that made the family feel comfortable. She spent several days with my dad and during those days, Heather and I shared many life events and family stories. She spoke a lot about her family and you could tell family was an important part of her life. This personal touch helped take the stress and pressure of dad’s condition away for a short time.
There was no question about her love for nursing and her love for people. My dad was very fortunate to have had a caring and hard working nurse like Heather. Heather is working on her four year degree. It is amazing that she can provide the level of care demanded in the ICU unit and also manage to further her education. Heather is a driven professional that loves nursing. She really left a positive impression with our family and friends.
