Jessica Stanford has always gone above and beyond. She will always get whatever her patients need and want, as long as it is good for the patient and their recovery.
Tonight when the night shift arrived, we were notified that one patient did not receive a tray for dinner. It was too late to notify dietary about needing a tray. The only things we could offer the patient were a snack pack, crackers, or chicken broth. None of these things were appealing to the patient who was hungry. She was upset that the staff could not get her a dinner tray and meet her needs.
Jessica then stepped in, and in her normal "let me take care of you" actions, asked the patient what she would like to eat. The patient then proceeded to tell her that she wanted chili. Jessica stepped out of the room and called her daughter. She asked her daughter to go to a Wendy's and order a bowl of chili and bring it to the hospital for one of her patients. Jessica never told the patient what she had done. Jessica spent her own money and went outside the hospital resources to make sure her patient had dinner that night and a dinner she would eat and enjoy. This alleviated the patient's anxiety and provided her a really good night.
