Our 3-year-old son has HLHS and recently had his 3rd open heart surgery. He had to make a trip to the cath lab for further evaluation, intervention and an additional chest tube placement. It was a tough day for us because our son could not eat or drink all day. The procedure ended up being delayed for two hours and took longer than expected. It was almost 6:30 pm before he got back to his room. It was very emotional for us to see him return and feel miserable again, not to mention he had more chest tubes than expected. I broke down.
Katie Reinhardt was very kind, offering emotional support, it was obviously way past the end of her shift. After she left we realized that our son was no longer wearing our personal gown that he had on prior to the procedure. Katie called the unit and was informed that the laundry had already been taken down to linen services. We did not have the gown labeled and they had no way of knowing it belonged to us. Katie went down to the laundry and personally searched for and found our son's gown and delivered it back to his room. This is a true example of Katie going above and beyond. We are grateful that she was there for us that night.
