Daisy Khang exhibits a high degree of professionalism, interacts with others in a positive, enthusiastic and cheerful manner daily from the start of the huddle to the end of her day. She is not afraid of challenging assignments or working long into the day for excellent care. She consistently works as a team player and acts as a mentor, not only daily to her peers but to new hires. Daisy works above and beyond as she occasionally fills in as admissions coordinator when the need arises.
Daisy has demonstrated her compassion, caring, and dedication as a nurse to patients on their final journey, no matter what time of day! She was the hospice nurse on call and at about 9 p.m., Daisy received a call from a spouse of an impending admission in need of help as her significant other was changing, imminently dying. Daisy heard the "cry for help in her voice" and called hospice director for clearance to admit. Over the next six hours, Daisy acted promptly to ensure this patient get admitted so that family received guidance, received medications for comfort and symptoms, emotional support to all on this final journey. Within this time-frame, it meant interacting with the medical director, pharmacy and family members, to get this patient comfortable and with seizures under control. The patient passed about 4 a.m. but was comfortable and family was able to spend last moments with him and grieving appropriately. Thank you, Daisy, for making the necessary calls, providing emotional support and education that this family so desperately needed in these final hours.
