Hilary displayed compassion with the care of a patient in 2A during a very difficult time, during the transition from curative care to end-of-life care. She made the patient a priority in order to advocate for this patient. She recognized that the patient's declining respiratory status required the doctor's attention and clarification of the plan in place. Hilary intervened to get physicians to the bedside and new orders to relieve the patient's distress. Hilary communicated calmly and clearly in order to receive the necessary assistance from peers to carry out the orders. The patient's respirations improved and the goals were clarified with the family allowing the transition to comfort care. Hilary was largely responsible for this veteran's optimal care during the transition.
