Good nurses contribute to the success and stability of healthcare institutions and to the mental health and physical well-being of their patients. They give not only their knowledge but a piece of their heart to each and every patient they care for.
It's late afternoon and a patient arrives at our reception desk. The patient is hesitant but finally tells me that she's been suffering from a recurring UTI. She looks desperate for help. She does not want to go home without seeing someone. Since it was late in the day, there were no appointments available and/or any providers left in the office...but one thing I knew for sure is that in the office is one of the most caring nurses, who I go to seek out.
She is on the phone triaging a patient. Her gestures and body language reassured me that she doesn't feel bothered by my last-minute presence or request. As soon as she finished her call, she looks at me and listens attentively. She cares and empathizes with the patient, acknowledging that the symptoms are extremely uncomfortable. She did not hesitate to take immediate action. She made sure the patient was scheduled for an appointment with a provider the next day. She also instructed me to have a medical assistant assist the patient with a urine test.

Amanda is wonderful nurse who, daily, offers the opportunity to make such a profound difference in the lives of people who struggle with their health and are desperately seeking care.

Amanda Norton is a remarkable nurse and human being. She is brilliant, compassionate, dedicated, professional, and a true asset to our practice and MGH. Amanda has shown leadership in a crisis. The COVID pandemic created so many new tasks for all of us. Amanda took the lead to both work long hours on the "front lines" as well as to keep all of us updated on the very latest information.
Amanda is always calm, meticulous in her work, and 110% reliable in all she does. She always treats all staff with kindness and professionalism. Amanda's knowledge within the field of nursing is also very impressive and she is always striving to learn more. All of the patients who have had any interaction with Amanda always tell me how so very helpful and wonderful she is. It's my absolute privilege to be able to work with Amanda.

Amanda is an amazing nurse; she always comes to work with a smile and is eager to help out. She never leaves extra work for her co-workers and is very smart and kind. I am honored to work with her.

Amanda Norton is an amazing, kind, caring nurse. She understands and is non-judgmental. She has a strong ability to empathize with patients from all walks of life. For example, one day interpreter services were short-staffed for a Spanish patient and the patient became a little anxious and concerned. I communicated the situation to Amanda. She stayed calm and positive and said, don't worry, I speak Spanish and everything is going to be fine. She made me feel reassured and confident that the patient was going to be well taken care of. She stepped up to help our sick patient. She saved the day not only for me, her co-worker, but the reputation of the BMG as well as MGH. And more importantly, she delivered great care, compassion, service, and guidance to our patient. Amanda is a wonderful nurse. We are very fortunate to have her in our department. She truly exemplifies what a nurse should be and strives to be the best every single day!
