Jet stood by his patient and held her hands. He said "You do not need to apologize, it's ok to cry. I will take good care of you."
It's hard for an OR nurse to have a good rapport with their patients. Most patients they take care of are either asleep or lightly sedated. That never stopped Jet from building a lasting impression on his patients. I have seen him work with a lot of patients. He is a good nurse with a big heart.
There came a time when I was assisting Jet with one of his patients. He had a geriatric patient for surgery. This patient was so anxious that she was crying, and she kept apologizing because she was crying. Jet stood by his patient and held her hands. He said "You do not need to apologize, it's ok to cry. I will take good care of you." He promised her that he will be at her side until she fell asleep. I saw as she was drifting to sleep Jet made the patient feel that she was the strongest person in the world. He has always been one of the best patient advocates, as an OR nurse that is an indispensable trait.
Most patients will forget our names and don't remember much of what happened during surgery, but I know that the patient that Jet took care of will remember what a "nurse" did for her surgery. He had numerous patients in which he steps up above and beyond with his line of work. I saw him make a cap for a pediatric patient's stuffed animal so that it looked like the stuffed animal also underwent surgery. He takes good care of patients with special needs.
As a whole, he takes good care of all patients. He talks to the patient's family very well and brightens up the room with jokes to ease both the patient and the family's anxiety. I am proud to work with him and I know the OR staff acknowledges the good job he's been doing to the patient and the whole unit.
