Megan advocated for the mother and talked to the treatment team about delaying discharge. Megan also spent the majority of her busy day going over the mother's concerns.
Megan was the nurse for a long-term chronic patient a couple of days prior to discharge. The patient was set to go home but Megan learned from the mother that she was overwhelmed with all the cares. The patient's mother was still confused about certain things and wanted some more hands-on practice! Megan advocated for the mother and talked to the treatment team about delaying discharge. Megan also spent the majority of her busy day going over the mother's concerns.
After Megan's shift, she wanted to ensure that all of the mother's concerns were addressed prior to discharge, and the supplies to safely care for the child were available. Megan was not back the next day, so she stayed over her shift to write an email to the discharge specialist about all the discharge teachings that have been done and those that still needed to be addressed. Megan truly showed great dedication to making sure both the patient and the mother were truly ready to go home after being in a hospital for 11 months!
Megan made sure that the patient's mother was more than prepared to take home a chronic kid. Megan made sure the mother's voice was heard. After Megan's shift, the patient's mother expressed feeling much more comfortable with her son's cares. Megan made sure that this patient was going home to a safe environment!
