Tanya left nothing to chance. She was always at our side making sure that we were informed of processes, ongoing or new, and that we were comfortable with our practice.
At the very beginning of the impact of COVID-19, the nursing director of Yawkey 2 transferred to another position. As our permanent Charge RN on Yawkey 2, Tanya streamlined all of the information and changes that were occurring daily. She disseminated information to us through daily huddles so that we could effectively and efficiently practice our nursing care to our patients while keeping ourselves and our patients the very safest possible from this virus. Tanya left nothing to chance. She was always at our side making sure that we were informed of processes, ongoing or new, and that we were comfortable with our practice. This level of leadership and support allowed us on Yawkey 2 to concentrate on administering care to our patients in the very best way possible. Tanya set up support staff at our doors for those in private rooms that required donning and doffing of PPE. This support staff was trained to be our eyes and guides to help us not contaminate ourselves. All the while that Tanya was busy leading and supporting us on Y2, she kept a clear, cool demeanor. Never once did I see her be anything but gracious to staff and patients. In my opinion, Tanya White Gilchrest is a DAISY Nurse. It is a recognition of the tireless hours that she spent on Y2, many of them passed her "regular shift", helping her colleagues help our patients. She has gained true respect and loyalty from the Y2 staff. Tanya is the true epitome of a Dana-Farber Nurse - leading through example, always offering a kind word, and providing exceptional care and knowledge.
