Though I'm sure Karen was busy with other things, she came right over and was very kind and patient with us while showing us what to do.
We are so grateful to Karen Allen today. We called the ICU for assistance this morning in obtaining and placing a new pleurevac on a patient with a chest tube. It is not something we do here at Hospice and it has been many years since I have had to do that and we do not carry that equipment. Our patient's pleurevac had completely filled along with the tubing; she was awake and alert and here for management of her shortness of breath and so we needed to take care of this. Though I'm sure Karen was busy with other things, she came right over and was very kind and patient with us while showing us what to do. She brought instructions for us as well for our own info and made sure everything was as it should be before leaving. I had been worried about this patient since she has a pneumothorax, pleural effusion, and newly diagnosed lung cancer and had just been weaned off the hi-flow oxygen last night. We felt so much better that we were back in business and the patient suffered no ill effects from the filled tubing and pleurex. We appreciate our neighborly relationship and great team spirit with Memorial staff and nurses.
