Ms. Miller is timely, always concerned, and takes the time to listen to my father's issues. She always makes him feel special and puts a smile on his face.
I am enthusiastically writing this DAISY Award nomination on behalf of Delise Miller, RN, my father's Home-Based Primary Care Nurse. Now that my father has moved, she continues providing exceptional compassionate nursing care and coordinates all the HBPC Team's efforts. While I am sure there are many deserving nurses, Lisa is a real standout and continues to be over the past 12 years.
Lisa, as I call her, has been an outstanding asset to my father's health care team since 2008. It is because of her diligent, dependable, and resourceful nursing skills that my father has been able to be cared for in my home for the last 12 years. Lisa has become like family to us, and my father looks forward to her monthly visits and compassionate care.
She is timely, always concerned, and takes the time to listen to my father's issues no matter how miniscule or insignificant. She always makes him feel special and puts a smile on his face. Over the years, Lisa has encouraged me to call her anytime I felt the need for her intervention or consultation. I can't tell you how this relieved my anxiety and proved to be valuable so many times.
When my father had symptoms of a urinary tract infection, which he frequently gets, she would come right out to collect his urine for testing and would make sure the results were obtained and medication was prescribed when needed. She even volunteered to bring it out if I couldn't get to the VA pharmacy in a timely manner. When my father entered the VA for annual respite care, Lisa made sure to stop by and check on him. Again, this simple act of caring, made me feel confident that my father was getting the care he needed while I was away. She even called on weekends to check on him when I was dealing with a challenging issue such as "falls".
Most recently, as Mr. Webster's mental state began to decline, Lisa helped me with the difficult decision of needing to place him in an environment that would better assure his safety and have all of his care needs met. Because she was so familiar with my father, her guidance made all the difference. We found a very good Medical Foster Care Home for him.
