Meghan displayed what I feel to have been a great holistic nursing instinct in her creative approach to allow some of the family to have a remote presence through this process.
Meghan went above and beyond her "required" job duties, Always! I am a nurse of 25+ years. I never take nurses for granted because it is hard and stressful, but as a young nurse, she rocked it through some very stressful times with our loved one. Legal issues arose, and she handled them very professionally and lovingly! She was a teacher to our younger family members in nursing school in so many great ways, with her skills and compassion at their best! Please tell Meghan again what a great nurse and person she is!

I wanted to pass along an observation from the unit yesterday as we are working in unprecedented times, and certain actions stand out. There was a patient who was being moved into comfort care in the isolation ICU. His primary nurse was Meghan Delaney. She took it upon herself to FaceTime with the family from the patient's room prior to extubating the patient (removing the breathing tube) to allow them a few moments of video contact with their loved one.
After all the conversations had taken place and the orders entered, Meghan rounded up a couple of PCU nurses. Meghan displayed great peer leadership as she asked if they had ever seen or been involved in terminal extubation, and she invited them in with her to witness the process.
After the ventilator tube was removed from the patient, Meghan again called the family and allowed them to have a video presence in the room with their loved one. She assured the family that SJH staff were in the room with their loved one, as he began to experience natural death, as the family could not be physically present at his side [due to pandemic restrictions].
Meghan displayed what I feel to have been a great holistic nursing instinct in her creative approach to allow some of the family to have a remote presence through this process. She displayed the qualities that I have long-associated with the Amazing nurses here at St. Joseph's Hospital. I think Meghan's actions raise her to the level of a true DAISY Nurse.
