There was a homeless patient who presented to the ER, who was very sick with shortness of breath. The patient expressed multiple times that his main concern was his dog that was out in the truck. Shawn was his ER Nurse that night and assured the patient that the dog would be taken care of. The patient ended up sedated and on the ventilator. After Shawn's night shift, she took a turkey sandwich out to the patient's truck to get the dog out. She planned on taking him to the humane society to be boarded until the patient was discharged. But it was still hours until they opened. Shawn took the dog for a long walk, including around Lover's Leap. She later took him to the humane society and said that his boarding was taken care of. I think this is the perfect example of showing compassion and going above and beyond.
