Kathy spoke with compassion and shared her experiences only when it was necessary. Otherwise, she just listened when I had no one to turn to.
Two years ago, I was diagnosed with the emperor of all diseases - cancer. I ate a plant-based diet, ran marathons, did not smoke, and yet somehow still ended up with cancer. My parents had serious illnesses of their own and the friends that I did have hardly ever returned my calls. I knew that I had to deal with this ordeal on my own. I resented my treatment journey as each medical visit felt like I was just a patient record with the techs who pushed me through short time slots, nurses who constantly called me "sir" and the doctors who just didn't have the time to explain the disease.
Out of desperation, I stopped by the Cancer Resource Center at Condell and knocked on Kathy Hill's door. I did not schedule in advance, but she just welcomed me. Our following conversation changed my outlook and gave me hope during a dark time. She spoke with compassion and shared her experiences only when it was necessary. Otherwise, she just listened when I had no one to turn to.
Kathy guided me through all the services the Cancer Center offered and took the initiative to schedule appointments for the hospital nutritionist and therapist. When I told her that my current Oncologist was disengaged with me, she promptly called to make an appointment on my behalf. This led me to a much more caring doctor.
I've gone to Kathy every time that I've had questions about my well-being and each time, she has reassured me that there are people who will try their best to help me deal with cancer. It's up to me though to constantly look and be proactive about my health. I'll be forever grateful for what she's done and has continued to do. In my humble opinion, Kathy Hill is a very good nurse and a very great person.
