The patient really opened up to Krystle. She helped him understand that using his words instead of lashing out was a better idea than being violent.
A pediatric BH patient was moved into grandfather's custody and was a social hold. He had a really hard life with physical abuse between his parents. His father was murdered and he is only 9 years old. He was violent with staff and security. Many of the staff could not connect with the patient but Krystle was able to breakdown his fears and reasons for why he was upset. The patient really opened up to her. She helped him understand that using his words instead of lashing out was a better idea than being violent. The rest of his care he was manageable and no longer required the PRN agitation medications. Days later when the patient saw her he was excited to see her and was continuing his improved behavior and decreased outbursts with staff. This was a moment that Krystle was able to be the difference-maker.
