Winnie is the type of nurse that everybody imagines but rarely gets. She is a breath of fresh air to all moms and support persons in Labor & Delivery. Winnie was the night nurse assigned to me during my post-natal and preeclampsia care. I can't describe the emotion and relief I felt when I was beginning my preeclampsia treatment (magnesium and catheter), and Winnie walked back in. I cried happy tears of relief because I knew Winnie would be there for me and take care of me. I was devastated and emotionally charged with my extended stay, and Winnie was quite literally my calm in the storm. She waited on me hand and foot, doing everything possible to make me more comfortable. An example is a "snack bin" of goodies and even a teddy bear! Who knew a stuffed animal could bring so much joy? Winnie's passion for her job and her patients is contagious. She bridges the gap between "just a nurse" and a friend. Her people skills put patients at ease and earn her trust. I am healthy, emotionally, and physically, because of Winnie. Thank you!
