Eric gave me his only jacket when he saw that I was visibly shaking from the near-freezing temperatures and kept me talking to find out what hurt. He contacted my family after locating my cell phone and kept them informed.
A good nurse does their best to take care of all their patients' needs day in and day out. A great nurse goes above and beyond at work, helping their patients in any way possible. An extraordinary nurse does all this and more! Going above and beyond not only at work but in the outside world too! This would be our co-worker, Eric Mueller!
I was on my way to work at approximately 7:15 am, the traffic in front of me came to a stop. There was no one behind me at the time so I put on my hazards and prayed that whoever came upon the same traffic would stop in time. They didn't. I was involved in a horrific rear-end collision that, even though I was wearing my seat belt, I was flung around like a crash test dummy. I hit my chest on the steering wheel and came back so hard that I broke and bent my drivers' seat and bent the headrest! I was in automatic panic mode. My whole body hurt! I was nauseous and in so much pain! I knew not to move my head or neck until assessed by medical professionals. I was sobbing. I was inconsolable.
Then I hear a man's voice... "Ma'am, are you ok?" I responded (sobbed hysterically was more like it) that I didn't know and that everything hurt. Then I hear "J? Is that you? It's Eric!" I opened my eyes to an angel! Eric stayed with me throughout the entire ordeal. He helped keep me calm (well, calmer). He communicated my condition to a Georgia Southern Police Officer who happened upon us so that the police officer could radio for help. He gave me his only jacket when he saw that I was visibly shaking from the near-freezing temperatures and kept me talking to find out what hurt. He contacted my family after locating my cell phone and kept my sister informed as to what was happening. He communicated with the police, fire, and ambulance personnel as to what was hurt and my symptoms, He even ended up taking pictures of the accident for me since I could not move.
The whole time, Eric did his best to keep me calm and warm. Since it took over 30 minutes for police to arrive and almost an hour for EMS to arrive, Eric did his job as a wonderful human being and never complained once that he would be late for work or that he was also freezing. I was his first priority and not many people nowadays put others first the way he did with me. Eric is a true DAISY Nurse.
