Evelyn recognized that this family needed her in their most crucial times and was determined to be there.
Recently, Evelyn Rendon showed the true definition of compassion and the reason why we became nurses. We received a patient for decreased fetal movement which turned out to be a fetal demise at 37 weeks gestation. Evelyn was the charge nurse that day, but because we didn't expect her to deliver so soon and Evelyn would be there Friday as well she thought it would be best to take the patient and be relieved from charge nurse in order to give the patient continuity of care. As the day went on it was evident that the patient would deliver sooner than anticipated. Evelyn stayed after her shift ended to be there to support her patient and her family and give continuity of care that was needed at that particular time. Evelyn recognized that this family needed her in their most crucial times and was determined to be there.
Evelyn showed the true definition of compassion and caring. She truly went above and beyond and I think it should be recognized. While the family was so grateful for her and the care our unit provided, I just think it is important to show her that we are all grateful to have such amazing nurses as herself and I think it's even more important to show appreciation and acknowledgment when it's warranted.
