Mariana comforted me in the pre-op area and was the last person who spoke positive words to me before being put to sleep.
During this pandemic, having a procedure is difficult, particularly when it pertains to an unexpected loss. I felt alone and sad as my husband dropped me off at the hospital the day of my procedure, knowing that he would not be able to come with me. Although I was trying to be strong and brave, having this procedure is scary and I was in pain which made things more difficult.
Mariana knew I was having a procedure that morning and she was there for me. She comforted me in the pre-op area and was the last person who spoke positive words to me before being put to sleep. She also stopped by the PACU to make sure I was comfortable, and my pain was better after the procedure. During her time with me, she helped prepare me for the procedure on an emotional level and she told me stories to help me feel supported and not so alone.
Although her primary role is nursing education, she is a true DAISY Nurse for how she goes above and beyond her role. It is important to me that Mariana is recognized for the outstanding nursing care she provides. Care is not only provided at the patient's bedside, but I believe it transcends beyond that.
