I was shocked about being admitted after a visit to the emergency room with an infected hand from a bite. As the swelling in my hand and arm increased, so did my anxiety. Beth's shift began a 7 pm, a few hours after my admission. The nurse whom she was relieving told me I'd be in the best hands with her. And boy, was she right!
Although she was super organized, she was also extremely compassionate. We shared stories and things we had in common while she made sure my iodine soak was the right temperature. She calmed my fears without belittling them. She encouraged me to continue my facetime conversation with my son, a special-needs teen, while she performed her nursing duties. All the staff with whom I came in contact with were great, but Beth will always stand out in my mind.
