Alyssa Marie
Reyes
,
RN
Medical Unit 14A
The Medical City Ortigas
Alyssa was assigned to an elderly patient who was alone and unable to feed himself, she added a personal touch by patiently sitting down with the patient and assisted him until he was done eating.
As a child, Alyssa knew that she wanted to become a nurse someday. Since then, she lived her life in pursuance of that dream. And when that dream became a reality, she did not waste time and immediately applied for a staff nurse position in our institution. During the Enhanced Community Quarantine, she had an accident that led to fractures in her hip and legs but this did not hinder her from going back to work. Even if she was in pain, she finished her eight-hour shift without any complaints.
She was one of the nurses who was assigned to the COVID unit. On one occasion, she was assigned to an elderly patient who was alone and unable to feed himself, she added a personal touch by patiently sitting down with the patient and assisted him until he was done eating. Despite handling multiple patients with enormous concerns, she takes good care of her patients with a big smile and joyfulness.
She treats everyone as a family: both colleagues in the profession and patients and their relatives. She may be busy on her duty at times but she never fails to lend a helping hand whenever the unit is busy. She touches everybody's heart with her passion to render service even after her accident.
Despite what happened to her, she goes on duty with her usual smiling and jolly face, but with a stronger heart and soul. She handles her patients intelligently and gracefully. She renders care to all her patients with tender love and care. No customer complaints as we speak. Stress and fatigue are not visible to her. Personal matters do not hinder her professional life. She handles everything with grace under pressure.
She does not settle for mediocre care because she believes that the nurse and her totality can make a huge impact on the healing and recovery of the patient. With this mindset, she works to continuously improve herself as a nurse so that she can give the patients the quality nursing care that they deserve. Also, she always wears her best, most genuine, and sincere smile every time she walks into the patient's room. She is willing to extend her time inside the patient's room just to ensure that all needs are given and met before stepping out of the room and going to the next patient to render the same quality nursing care.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, when public transportation was on a halt, she reported to work using a bicycle. She got into a bicycle accident leading to a fracture on her hips and legs yet during her confinement, she thought about getting back to work immediately. Barely able to walk by herself, she walked from her dorm to the hospital to have herself checked by her attending physician so she could be cleared to work and help her colleagues. Her willingness to report to duty is infectious.
