Lauren decided to take a patient assignment and send one of the nurses to float to the Emergency Department and help with patients that were holding.
Lauren exemplifies leadership qualities in her daily role as charge nurse on the medical-surgical floor. Her calm, capable manner ensures that the floor runs smoothly. She is a team player who assists our staff to provide the highest level of nursing care to our patients and family members. She is a mentor to members of our nursing staff who can rely on her clinical expertise.
Recently, there was a shift when there were five patients holding in the Emergency Department waiting to be admitted to the medical-surgical floor. The floor was at capacity and could not admit the patients until others were discharged and rooms cleaned. As charge nurse with five nurses on the floor, she could have chosen to stay serving as free charge nurse but instead decided to take a patient assignment and send one of the nurses to float to the Emergency Department and help with patients that were holding. This exemplifies being a team player and doing what is deemed best for our patients.
