Ms. Landis was never far from me, making sure I had everything I needed, including a shoulder to cry on.
During my stay at UPMC HAMOT, I experienced more than the "Expected" difficulties of having a Total Knee Replacement. Within 15 minutes of entering my room post-op, my wife received a phone call that no one ever expects to get.
Our daughter was at St. Vincent's Hospital in Critical Condition after suffering a massive heart attack on the Cardiac Cath lab table. My wife left immediately to be with her. They had performed ACLS on her for 1 hour and were able to resuscitate her.
Unfortunately, even with ECMO, she was declared dead at 2106 hours that night.
My Nurse, Kori, stayed with me to offer kind, caring and encouraging support as I began to call, to notify family members after she expired. In the hours that ensued, Ms. Landis was never far from me, making sure I had everything I needed, including a shoulder to cry on. She and the rest of your staff facilitated my expedient care and recovery knowing I needed to be with my family.
Her compassion was inspiring, and her communication meant everything to me. Just knowing that she had included the entire team (Doctors, CANs, PT, OT, etc.) about our loss and my goals to leave the next day ensured that I was prepared to leave as quickly as possible.
Her professionalism was by far the best I've seen in my own 30 years as a nurse. She should be commended for her outstanding care of her patients, including myself. It was an honor to meet her and be her patient. Please know that our entire family has so much gratitude for everything your team did in our time of need.
Thank you to everyone at UPMC HAMOT, but a very special thank you and blessings for Ms. Kori Landis RN.
