Jalyssa was caring for a critically ill patient who was made comfort measures only by her family. She had an amazing connection and rapport with the family as she had taken care of them for many days preceding the CMO decision. As she checked on the patient and the family, she could tell that something was bothering them. Jalyssa made a point to sit with the patient's wife and daughter to see if there was anything she could do to help. The family confided in her that they were struggling with the thought of going home for the night and leaving the patient alone while he passed. Jalyssa was so empathetic and compassionate with her support to this family. She explained that she had witnessed many cases when the patient actually hangs on until they are alone. She reassured the family that the patient was in amazing hands with the nurse she was handing off to and that she would go above and beyond to keep him comfortable. She provided them with all of the contact information to the unit and the charge nurse and told them they could call any time for an update. Jalyssa is a true example of what a caring and compassionate nurse is and we are very lucky to have her on our team.
