Sadie held her hand the whole time, rubbed her back, and told her she would not leave her.
Mercedes (Sadie) took over a patient at shift change who was in respiratory distress with critically low oxygen levels. She called two MRTs on this patient within an hour during which she never left her side. With her increased breathing difficulty and hypoxia, the patient was extremely anxious. Sadie held her hand the whole time, rubbed her back, and told her she would not leave her. This patient was COVID positive and unable to have family present, but Sadie was her comfort and support through this. The patient stated she was worn out and that she wanted to go in peace. Sadie advocated for the patient and voiced this to the physician, never leaving her side. She stayed with the patient until all invasive interventions were removed and medications were administered, and the patient's condition was more stable which took almost 3 hours. Sadie truly made a difference to this patient and will not be forgotten.
