Ms. Dills developed and implemented the policy, Care of the Persons at Risk for Suicide, across the Ascension Health System in 22 states and 150 hospitals. This policy is innovative in that it adheres to regulatory requirements but focuses on a holistic approach to caring for persons at risk for suicide or who have had a failed suicide attempt. The policy includes a checklist that orients staff to change their perception about the patient population, identifying symptoms of suicide, and provides guidance and scripts for compassionately speaking with the patient.
