We were in the patient cafeteria when a patient threatened to beat up another patient. Zach calmly deescalated him. He was very kind in the way that he did it, and indeed the patient calmed down. He helped the patient feel safe as he was feeling threatened by another patient.
Just the other day a nursing student visited our unit, and she said that she wanted to be the kind of nurse Zach was. He is always kind, professional, and extremely helpful to the other nurses and techs on the unit. He is responsive to patients' requests even if he is not the patient's nurse. I've been working in the mental health field as a mental health counselor for 30 years, and although he is relatively young and does not have years of experience, he has the judgment of a much more experienced behavioral health nurse.
