You guided each one of us individually through the toughest facetime call of our lives.
As a family, we are writing to you to express our sincerest gratitude for the extraordinary care you provided to one of your COVID-19 patients, J. There are not enough words to describe what you gave to us in the final moments of his life. A life that was lived loving his family and living for his family, his community, his country, and all animals great and small.
We understand as a nurse you are called to care for your patients but on that day you went above and beyond. You recognized the end of his life was near and quickly reacted doing what was necessary to give the five of us the opportunity to say goodbye and to share our love for him. You were strong when we were weak, and you guided each one of us individually through the toughest facetime call of our lives. You remained incredibly calm, your eyes conveyed love, trust, and sympathy, not only for him but for each of us, and you assured us you would be with him until he passed. Thank you for staying with him until the end, we did joke that for him having a beautiful caring woman by his side was the best possible outcome in a less than ideal situation.
He spent weeks in the hospital during quarantine, we felt helpless, like we abandoned him, and left him alone. We had no choice but to entrust his care to the staff at the hospital, which as you can imagine is not easy to do. Thank God on that day you were the nurse assigned to J, a patient that you risked your own health and well-being for. Without you, his and our experience may have been very different. Thank you for your attention, awareness, and commitment as a nurse.
We cannot begin to understand what this has done to you, to your family, or to how you feel about your career as a nurse, but without you, the tragedy of our loss would be a lot harder to accept. We will forever remember you and your actions, your service to your community, and the love you shared with our family. We hope that someday we can give you a very large hug for all you've done but if that day never comes may this letter be a reminder of the impact you've had.
