Since birth, my little one has had some pretty significant medical issues. In the past three years, we have had numerous medical appointments. This past year we were referred to a new specialist in the Urology Department of CCMC. Baseline tests revealed other unknown significant problems and required further testing. Even with a medically complex child, you are never fully prepared for a new diagnosis. A few months ago I met Tricia Giscombe over the telephone. I was a little nervous about my child's Urodynamic Study for several reasons: my child was just recently discharged from a long surgical hospital stay, COVID-19, a new procedure, and the possible outcome. Tricia immediately made me feel comfortable and at ease. She went out of her way to ease my stress by explaining the procedure in detail, as well as the precautions for safety. Not only did she explain the prep for the procedure, but she also told me who would be in the room administering the test. Even though she was busy, she never made me feel rushed. Once the study was done, it was determined that I would need to be trained for additional home procedures that would become part of our daily regimen.
I was really nervous, but Tricia was one of the nurses who trained me. She was wonderful and did an excellent job educating me throughout the entire process. She was kind, patient, and compassionate to my little one. Tricia showed me the same kindness, compassion, and patience. She made sure I felt comfortable with our new regimen. She took care of the order for the supplies we were going to need each day.
There have been several instances where Tricia has gone above and beyond to help me since the training. After a few weeks, my little one developed some issues and I had to call Tricia for help. She was understanding of my work schedule and made time for us to come in for additional training and different supplies. There have also been several insurance issues with his supplies from an outside supply company. During her busy day, she finds the time to immediately take care of the issue with the supply company. Insurance is not part of Tricia's job description, but she has always gone above and beyond to take care of the issue for us. Making sure we are set with the necessary supplies is a priority for Tricia. There have been many calls between the additional training, questions about medications, and insurance issues; Tricia is never bothered and is happy to help.
