I could tell by the way that Cristina talked about the patient that she had a soft spot for him.
Cristina is here as a traveler and when I had this interaction with her she had only been here for 1 week. Early morning on Thanksgiving I was floating to Oncology as helping hands when I met a patient who had a rough road and the decision had been made to place him under Hospice care; he was mentally sound but his body was failing him.
I could tell by the way that Cristina talked about the patient that she had a soft spot for him. Later that shift when it was quiet on the floor, I heard Christmas music playing and found her sitting next to his bed, holding his hand, and singing Christmas carols to him. Both she and the patient appeared so at peace. This made me proud to be her co-worker and proud to see a nurse with so much compassion and empathy for the patients who find themselves here. We are lucky that she is here, even if it's only for a short time!
