Matthew goes above and beyond in meeting with families via FaceTime and phone calls, to keep them abreast of their loved ones' progress and needs.
We have so many terrific nurses, but this nurse stands out among them. Weekly we have difficult patients to transition because of their neurological deficits, complex hospital course, and lack of resources. He goes above and beyond in meeting with families via FaceTime and phone calls, to keep them abreast of their loved ones' progress and needs. He often is the first person to have spent any time explaining the patient situation with the families. Even amongst families that are angry, in shock, etc...he develops a trusting rapport. This nurse also orchestrates the family training with the therapist, DM education, nutrition, nursing and follows up on progress.
Another great quality is how he follows up with staff on opportunities for improvement. The way he does it, the staff are appreciative of his recommendations. His humble and caring attitude puts the staff at ease, and makes them much more receptive to any feedback.
During these times with COVID, he has gone back to the bedside without any complaints and done a super job.
