As we waited for the real action to start, we reminisced about each delivery, and Nurse Nichole knew every room number that we had delivered in. Our pregnancy journey had come full circle and she was there through it all.
This is our story about Nichole Young or "Nurse Nichole," one of the most remarkable humans we have ever known.
Our first child, and son, surprisingly passed away when I was 34 weeks pregnant. That's when our friendship started with Nurse Nichole. She assisted in the delivery. It was the hardest day of mine, my husband's and our families' lives. We knew that a door to what could have been would be closing that day. But what we didn't know was that another door would open to someone who would forever hold a special place in our hearts. Nichole showed us so much compassion that day; meeting every need, answering every question, and allowed numerous family members in our room to meet our little angel. A day that, while filled with so much sadness and loss, was surrounded by so much love and support. We are so grateful Nurse Nichole allowed all of our family and friends to be with us during this time because now we are able to openly talk about our son. We can remember together what he looked like and what he felt like in our arms.
We stayed in touch over the years. In October 2015, we found out we were expecting. Nichole was of course one of the first people to hear about our news. She HAD to be there to deliver us. And when June 2016 came around, you better believe she made sure to be there delivering our daughter. This time so many smiles, laughter, and happiness filled our day and we couldn't have done it without Nurse Nichole.
Skip to August 2018 and we were expecting another daughter. I had been keeping Nichole in the loop of when I was to be induced because again, she HAD to be there to deliver. It just so happened that I got scheduled when she wasn't supposed to be on shift. Nichole and her family made some adjustments and she was able to come in. She was the one that got me in a room as soon as she arrived. When you have multiple children and a firefighter husband, to just change your schedule like that is no easy task. There we were though, delivering a third time with Nurse Nichole.
Now fast forward to 2019, my husband, children, and I had moved to St. Petersburg, FL on a 6-month rental lease. He and I had spent months deciding if we would try for another child. When it was time to find another place to live, we had to make the choice of St. Pete or Orlando. I told my husband there was no way I would deliver anywhere else other than Winnie Palmer and with no one else other than Nurse Nichole. So, we moved back to Orlando to try for a 4th child.
There we were, August 2020, in the middle of a pandemic and expecting. We later realized that only my husband and I would be able to be in the hospital for the delivery. Several family members expressed how sad they would be that they couldn't be there for us, but they were just happy for us that we would have Nurse Nichole there.
The unexpected day came for us to deliver our SON and Nichole was at Animal Kingdom with her family. With the support of her husband and mom again, they left Animal Kingdom. She went home, took a short nap, got ready, and came to the hospital. I couldn't hold back the emotions for how far our pregnancy journey had come and to see her there just overwhelmed me with happiness. I had my A-team, my husband, and Nurse Nichole by my side one last time, and the tears just flowed.
As we waited for the real action to start, we reminisced about each delivery, and Nurse Nichole knew every room number that we had delivered in. She even pointed out that we were delivering right across the hall in the same pod from our son. Our pregnancy journey had come full circle and she was there through it all.
Winnie Palmer has an incredible staff and we have been so fortunate to deliver there 4 times. Nurse Nichole brought us and our families through the hardest and best times of our lives. She is a true hero and we are blessed to know her. She isn't just a nurse to us, she is family.
