Finding one specific situation or story to describe the impact Jeff Smith makes in the Emergency Department is a true challenge. Jeff is an astounding nurse, who shows great compassion for every person he encounters. The level of professionalism, dignity, and reverence that Jeff demonstrates daily in the ED does not go without notice. Jeff precedes the call of duty and effectively demonstrates the true meaning of being a patient partner and advocate. He comes in every morning, checks with the Patient Access team to see if everyone is okay and if there is anything that needs his attention as he begins his day.
A small example of Jeff going above and beyond is when a patient came in to be seen in the ED and needed to be admitted. This patient was also the caregiver for her bedridden spouse, therefore, he was alone with no care while she was at our facility. A neighbor came in and notified staff of their situation. Jeff immediately went into action to ensure the patient's husband would receive the adequate care he needed at home while she was receiving the care she needed here. Jeff also assisted one of our associates who has a special needs child in getting a scooter that was greatly needed, and another by informing them on how to replace a wheelchair for a loved one. Again, there are countless examples of Jeff's diligence and compassion for our patients, their families, and our staff. It is his selflessness, humanity, willingness to help others and dedication to the community that makes Jeff a true DAISY Nurse.
