Ashley is the Nurse Navigator for our HMC and WMH Oncology patients. Ashley shows tremendous empathy to our patients. She is continually sitting with patients and families, for extended periods of time. She is diligent in ensuring all of their educational, financial, physical, and emotional needs are met prior to them leaving. It is not uncommon for her to be on the phone for hours, working to ensure patients' medications are covered and received in a timely manner. She has never lost that personal touch with her patients, they look to her for support and she delivers.
One example that Ashley is responsible for, is our treatment completion ceremonies.
When a patient is completed with oncology services, usually chemotherapy, the SPC staff line the halls, cheer, and clap for the patient as they walk their last time out of treatment. They are then able to ring our Oncology bell. The bell is inscribed with a saying "Ring this bell three times well, to celebrate this day. This course is run, my treatment done, now I am on my way." Ashley put a lot of work into creating a positive moment for our patients. We have had great success with this and the patients really love the experience. It is so heartwarming to see her work in action.
