All night, I was awake from pain, itchiness, and nausea. But Pushpa listened. She was patient with me and didn't make me feel like a burden.
I was supposed to have an outpatient procedure (port implanted). But the surgery was unsuccessful. So that evening I was admitted to 3West for pain control and to wait to have another port placement attempt in the cath lab. Because of how my body hyper metabolizes medication, it is very hard to make me comfortable. In the cath lab I cried from the pain, but I returned to pain meds awaiting my arrival. The 3 West team believed my pain. All night, I was awake from pain, itchiness, and nausea. But Pushpa listened. She was patient with me and didn't make me feel like a burden. She graciously got my hourly medication. Pushpa spent time reading over my extensive chart, even though she was the charge nurse.
Because I kept the door to my room open for safety and to keep eyes on me, I saw how Pushpa and her team interacted. They all spoke to each other with the utmost respect. Pushpa saw that a patient needed X-rays but there was only one nurse in the room. She quickly delegated a nurse and a CNA who weren't busy at the time to help their fellow staff member.
Pushpa speaks to us all with the same calm tone and listens to us all the same way with dignity. Patients and co-workers both seem more at ease around Pushpa because of her active listening skills and empathy. As a leader, Pushpa delegates some jobs, but at the same time will do any job- from administering meds to emptying the white bathroom hat.
From my viewpoint, everyone enjoys Pushpa as a charge nurse, a bedside nurse, and as an individual.
