Shelby is one of my favorite nurses in the world and this is why.
On a weekend when we were very short-staffed, she had to take a full heavy assignment of 4 COVID patients and charge on our unit. Somehow, she did it with grace! Not only did she have to worry about her own 4 patients like the rest of us, but she also had to worry about the other 36 patients on the unit, 9 nurses, 4 PCAs, and countless people calling her from all over the hospital for other stuff.
Anyone else would have thrown in the towel upon arrival to their shift, but not Shelby. She completed everything on her to-do list AND helped everyone else out with theirs. Throughout the shift, she managed to keep a smile on her face and a positive attitude. Shelby is a great role model for our team. She is caring, compassionate, and darn hard working! Oh, I forgot to mention, she had to do this both Saturday and Sunday! I don't know what we'll ever do without her. She reminds us to keep going with a positive attitude and never lets a bad situation ruin our day.
