I, fortunately, had the opportunity to scrub in on the case with the surgeon and Amanda. She remained calm and professional. Amanda worked alongside our surgeon for five hours.
Amanda consistently provides a very high standard of care to both patients and surgeons in the execution of her duties as an OR nurse. She is highly skilled and knowledgeable. Amanda is very self-motivated and selfless in that she had voluntarily returned to help in emergencies even though she was not on-call. She manages the vascular service and has been a valuable resource for team members. This means ordering of supplies and equipment, preference cards update, training and mentoring staff, and working closely with the physician to coordinate closely with radiology and to ensure correct items are brought to the OR.
One day in the OR, the surgeon called saying he may have a possible patient with a ruptured aneurysm. Without any hesitation, Amanda went into automatic mode to prepare for the procedure. She asked our surgeon to call her directly to notify her if it will be an open or endovascular procedure. This coordination helped to ensure that the correct items, supplies, and equipment were readily available. I, fortunately, had the opportunity to scrub in on the case with the surgeon and Amanda. She remained calm and professional. Amanda worked alongside our surgeon for five hours.
On another occasion, Amanda was not feeling well and continued to scrub on cases with our surgeon. She completed her workday and was very stoic to the very end. The very next day, I learned that Amanda also had her own surgery the previous night.
Amanda is a true team player that genuinely cares about the patient, physicians, and teammates.
