A 21-year old was brought to BMH-NM and for 3 days, Lydia was his nurse. I watched her not minister to the physical needs of her patient but also ministered to the family grieving in a situation that had no hope medically speaking for recovery. Not only did she perform her duties as this young man's nurse, when this young man donated his organs: she came back after working a full day; participated in the honor walk that evening (which she was instrumental in making happen); she participated in the OR with the transplant team that night at 10 pm, and worked closely with Pastoral Care to make sure the family was well ministered to. Lydia is a DAISY Nurse for going above and beyond the call of duty and exhibiting the core values of Baptist (Teaching, Preaching, and Healing).
