Families don't forget those who show them the kind of love and compassion that Sara and so many of the other nurses did for us.
Our mother was admitted to the hospital. She was intubated almost immediately. She was very ill and we learned she had COPD. I was never able to communicate with my mom because of medication and the intubation, so it became days of simply talking to her and telling her how much we loved her. My mother had many wonderful caregivers during her remaining time on earth. One nurse that I never forgot was only known to me as "Sara." She was that source of comfort, gentleness, and assurance that we needed at that time. Nurses may think what they do is soon forgotten, but families don't forget those who show them the kind of love and compassion that Sara and so many of the other nurses did for us. She was truly a bright spot in a very dark time of our lives. I'll never forget her kindness and am so happy to know that she is now no longer just Nurse Sara, she's my angel on earth.
