Mariah was able to hold the transfer for a few minutes to allow the daughter to say goodbye at the bedside.
A patient was admitted to Mariah Ehrman's floor with a hip fracture who was actually in shock and needed to be transferred to the ICU. The patient's daughter lives a distance away and came down earlier in the day. EMS took her mother to the ER but because of visitor policy, the daughter could not accompany her. Upon learning her mother needed to be transferred to the ICU, again no visitors, the daughter was very sad and worried about her mom. However, since the patient had been placed on a medical floor first and daughter was literally 10 minutes away and the patient's BP sustaining in the 90s, Mariah was able to hold the transfer for a few minutes to allow the daughter to say goodbye at the bedside. The patient was moved to the ICU and the next day made hospice. What Mariah gave the daughter was more than any medicine or any procedure could do. It was a beautiful and heartwarming act of compassion. She is a true DAISY Nurse.
