Once I heard his voice, a sense of relief came over me. Whether Mr. Willie sang a song that I liked while he was dressing my wounds to make me more comfortable or just a word of faith saying I would be going home soon.
I was under medical care in this burn unit for seven weeks, two major surgeries, and four backup procedures. Although all nurses on the floors and unit did a very good job of taking care of me, "Mr. Willie" as I called him, went above and beyond his call of duties. Especially when I was in chronic pain or just having a hard day. Once I heard his voice, a sense of relief came over me. Whether he sang a song that I liked while he was dressing my wounds to make me more comfortable or just a word of faith saying I would be going home soon. He was so gentle and kind but always performed his duties as a nurse. At 2 AM one morning I was in pain and wanted ice. Although he had other patients he took the time to get what I needed. Who takes this effort today? Everyone is so busy, they sometimes forget to be compassionate. Another example of Nurse Willie's kindness is one morning I was really missing my mom. I couldn't find the phone in my bed, and guess who walks into my room? Yes, an angel. He not only found my phone, but he dialed the numbers and talked to my mom to assure her that I was OK. I was so glad. He really made my hospital stay a blessed experience. Love you, "Mr. Willie".
