Calli is an outstanding nurse. She's the type of PICU nurse I strive to be. When you take over a patient from her everything is organized and up-to-date. She's an excellent team player and a preceptor and can communicate and collaborate well with those around her. Most of all, she cares.
I recently took over a patient from her and the time she dedicated to the patient during her shift is what inspired me to nominate her. The patient had been in the ICU for quite a while and had matted hair with EEG glue throughout. Calli spent an extended amount of time trying to get the glue out of the patient's hair and untangling all the mats. When I arrived the patient's hair was sitting beautifully atop of her head held in place by a bow she picked out herself.
In addition to this, Calli had brushed her teeth, gave her a bath, and changed her linens. Calli didn't do all of this because it's a requirement, she did it because she genuinely wanted the patient to feel better. If this doesn't exemplify Children's Hospital Colorado's mission and values, I don't know what does.
