I truly do not have enough paper or time to explain all the reasons why Danette is deserving of this recognition, but I will try. Danette was pulled to work from her primary job in the IS Department. She came to work on 3 West and made an immediate impact. Her care was exceptional, and her attitude was even better.
It is difficult to start working on the floor as a Nurse after not having direct patient care for some time. Danette never flinched, she picked up right where she left off and went about and beyond for the team and her patients. There are many different times when she impressed me, but I will list a few.
Danette had an elderly patient that has sustained a fall at home and had a broken hip. This patient was very concerned about his bloody shirt and pants. Danette took hydrogen peroxide and soap and hand-washed this patient's clothes in the sink. Again, this might seem small and insignificant, but it was just a perfect example of her going above and beyond and doing anything she could to make her patients comfortable and at ease.
Danette was also exceptional at educating her patients. She would spend extra time and effort when educating them because she truly understood how important patient education is. She had a patient being discharged with newly diagnosed diabetes. Danette took time to print out extra educational information and made sure her patient felt comfortable going home with all this new information. She didn't care if she was going to have to stay late in order to get the work done, she did what she had to do and never left a thing behind.
Another example of her excellent care occurred when she had a very sick patient who was on our unit for a few weeks. This man was a difficult patient and was very particular. He often needed numerous Nurses to help move and reposition him which could take up to 20-30 minutes to get him comfortable and situated; Danette never got frustrated or upset. She would reposition him and do anything he asked, even scratching his itchy feet that he couldn't reach. This patient was so deconditioned that it was a struggle to get him out of bed, but rather than use that as an excuse to leave him there, Danette, got the Hoyer lift and helped this patient to a chair. The patient was very thankful to get out of bed.
Later that day, this patient was off the floor and a code was called to dialysis. Danette had a feeling that it was her patient, she ran down the hallway, flew down the stairs to Dialysis in order to help! She jumped right in and assisted in any way possible, eventually stabilizing the patient and bringing him back to the floor safely. Danette is a wonderful Nurse and an asset to the Tidelands Health community. She is a true DAISY Nurse for her hard work and her willingness to jump into action when asked.
