Caydee was there to remind me that I'd just been through major surgery and that walk was an accomplishment in itself and she was proud of me.
My journey starts about 8 years and 10 surgeries ago. Through this time, I had been under the care of countless nurses, doctors, PA's, Techs, and CNA's, so I have a bountiful firsthand account of different types of care. I also work as an EMT in an ED at a different hospital, so I know what it takes to be a top-notch caregiver.
Caydee is the epitome of the nurse I would want caring for me or any family member of mine on every single shift if we were stuck in a hospital! I might have come into potentially life-changing surgery in the near best shape of my life at 38, but I have been struggling mentally.
From the first moment Caydee joyfully introduced herself to me she made me feel safe, cared for me like a real person and not just a room number. When I found myself down because now a "lap around the unit" exhausted me, Caydee was there to remind me that I'd just been through major surgery and that walk was an accomplishment in itself and she was proud of me.
Later during one of our shifts with her, I felt like another one of the nurses didn't understand a piece of equipment and that truly made me, the patient, and my wife, worried about the nurse's capability of running the equipment. Caydee stepped in immediately and showed her how to work the equipment, ensured that she was getting the right training, and also proved to us that she knew what was going on, willing to pass on that information and we felt safe after that. I sit here thinking about how her care is exceptional, she always made sure I had my medication on time since she knew getting behind the pain control for me could become a big problem, how she also does these amazing little things to make you feel comfortable, and how she ensures I have the little things like drinks that are full, and I've ordered my lunch, so I don't get a sick feeling from an empty stomach.
In closing, I believe Caydee is the epitome of what a DAISY Award nurse it! Thank you.
