Katie has a big heart to help fellow nurses and compassion for her patients. This is not the first time she has gone above and beyond her call of duty; she has done it numerous times. Today we had a very challenging day in CVICU. Staffing was very tight, with the expectation of a surveyor visit. Katie was called yesterday and asked if she could help out in our unit since we have several COVID patients that are quite challenging and we could really use a good nurse like Katie to help our nurses deliver great care. Katie re-arranged her schedule to accommodate working a full 12 hour shift in CVICU, away from her home unit, and take on the challenge of caring for COVID patients. She made sure nurses were donned appropriately, ensured the surroundings were clean and sanitized, and relieved nurses for lunch.
She gave the unit a very positive and caring attitude while she compassionately cared for patients. It truly meant a lot to the CVICU nurses. She made us feel that we are all in this together. To Katie, we salute you for having a big heart to help in a time of great need.
