When I was hospitalized in RTU, I got to experience what a true nurse should be. Scarlet is kind, patient, and brings peace to the room. She spoke to me as a person, not demeaning or as if I was a bother. I felt as though she was a friend.
When my father-in-law found out I was in the hospital, he stated, "When my wife was in the hospital a few weeks ago, she had the best nurse in RTU." We immediately determined we had the same nurse, and both felt she was phenomenal!
The biggest reason I want to nominate Scarlet for the DAISY Award is that she went way out of her way to make me feel comfortable. I understand RTU patients do not stay for long periods of time, but I spent 3 nights there and had not had a shower in forever. I had been sick a few days before I was admitted to RTU. I felt dirty and terrible. Scarlet stopped what she was doing to go with me to the shower. She wrapped my port, made sure I had clean clothes, and helped clean up after me. She recognized I had a need, and she made sure my needs were met.
Scarlet Azcarraga went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable, and for that, I am extremely grateful.
