Desiree came in and after I explained what happened, she became my advocate.
I was a patient after having Laminectomy surgery. Desiree was the Nurse who greeted me and my husband when we were brought into my hospital room that afternoon. She made sure that I was comfortable and checked on me during her shift. Desiree was there for me until I was discharged. During that time I went through a roller coaster of emotions. My husband always checked with her before visiting me to see how I actually was and always remarked that he felt I was in great hands with her. On the day I was discharged I received some conflicting instructions from my surgeons. The surgeon removed my drain and I was in tears with pain. Desiree came in and after I explained what happened, she became my advocate. Soon after the surgeon returned to discuss what had happened. Without Desiree saying something to him in my defense I feel that another patient might receive the same treatment without him knowing any better. Even when I was being discharged she made sure I wasn't bending or stretching. She "had my back", literally and figuratively my whole stay.
