Petual "Petey" Harris deserves to be recognized for her endless positivity and encouragement toward all that she encounters throughout Tidelands Health. We, as an organization are lucky to have her as a shining example of all that we stand for and aspire to emulate. Petual makes an impact on every patient, family, provider, nurse, and staff member that has the pleasure of meeting her. The following are a few meaningful experiences and just a small glimpse into Petual the excellent nurse and wonderful person:
Petual is a more recent addition to the WCH PACU nursing staff and is truly an asset. Despite the high demands of her critical environment, she always manages to make each, and every patient feel like they are her one and only priority while excelling within the fast-paced PACU environment. She is also kind and courteous to those who receive her patients following surgery when they are ready to come to the floor. Never has Petual failed to provide her patient with something they needed, despite the transfer of care. A patient once arrived at the floor and developed post-operative nausea while being settled. Petual found the nearest Pyxis, pulled Zofran, and selflessly took the initiative to medicate the patient so their needs could be met as quickly as possible.
Another day, Petual was on her way back to the PACU after transferring care of her patient on the floor. She heard a call bell sounding in the room next door and immediately went into the room to assist the patient to the bathroom. She was having a busy shift herself and didn't have to respond as this was not her patient or her unit, but she placed the needs of a patient above all. She does not hesitate to lend a helping hand in any situation.
A patient was once missing all of her belongings following surgery. Petual took the time to search all areas of the hospital where stretchers had traveled throughout the entire day and found them for the patient. Patients consistently share their pleasant experiences as her patient with our providers and it does not go unnoticed. They have complimented her ability to care for their patients and their confidence in her to safely advance them to the next level of care when appropriate. Her close attention to detail, devotion to patient care, and collaboration across the organization sets her apart. The fact that she does it with a positive attitude and friendly smile on her face makes her a true DAISY Nurse. Petual is a role model because she treats ALL patients at Tidelands Health like they are as important and special as her own family member and she treats her coworkers with the same love and respect. It is an honor and a pleasure to work alongside Petual "Petey" Harris.
